Melissa ‘Vanilla’ Roberts has copped the Republic Jubilee Mashramani Road March.
With her song “I am 592,” Roberts notched her eighth Road March title, the Department of Social Cohesion announced yesterday in a statement.
She managed to score 44 points, to best Kishana ‘Kady Kish’ Ferguson and Jumo ‘Rubber Waist’ Primo, both of whom secured 14 points.
The statement said the Ministry of the Presidency managed to grab first position in the Full Costume Large Band category of the Mashramani costume and float parade, pipping Digicel Guyana.
Meanwhile, in the Full Costume medium band category, the Guyana Water Incorporated managed to surpass its competitors. The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Education secured the second and third positions, respectively.
For the Full Costume Small Band category of the parade, the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) won, with the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs and the Heritage Band placing second and third, respectively.
Taking the spotlight for the Semi Costume Small Band aspect of the parade was the Ministry of Public Telecommuni-cations, followed by the Regional Democratic Council Number Four, while for non-commercial floats, the Ministry of the Presidency secured the top position, followed by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Meanwhile, after the scores were tallied, the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs was adjudged the band bearing the best King and Queen Costumes as well as the best male and female individual costumes.
Although the activities on Republic Golden Jubilee calendar have all been hosted, the Department yesterday said it is still encouraging all Guyanese to continue their jubilation in the spirit of the 50th Republic Anniversary, a momentous occasion that deserves continued recognition throughout the year.
