Mohammed Wazir Khan, an economics teacher, was yesterday formally read a charge of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
It is alleged that Khan, on March 9, 2019, was involved in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 and abusing a position of trust.
Khan appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in a Georgetown court, where the charge was read to him. (It was originally filed on May 21, 2019.)
However, before the proceedings could go any further, Khan informed the court that he received a call from his lawyer and was told that he would not be able to make it to the court hearing.
Khan further told the magistrate that he wished to not say anything in the absence of his lawyer.
Magistrate Daly warned the accused that she would not allow or consider the absence of his lawyer as a reason to adjourn the case again.
The matter is expected to be called again on April 2.
