Dear Editor,
To retain my lucidity in the present situation in Guyana, I constantly seek minute moments of hope. One of those was the recent press brief by the CARICOM Chairperson, Barbadian Prime Minister, Mia Mottley. Now that I am giving it further thought, it might be more a win for the region and regional body rather than Guyana particularly. However, I am desperate and will claim it.
Ms. Mottley displayed eminent stateswomanship, something Guyanese leaders were once known for. Rendering four other Prime Ministers in the Caribbean speechless before her feat was an impossible task! It is widely known that they enjoy the sounds of their voices.
I take this opportunity to thank her (especially her) and the other Prime Ministers for their contribution and assistance in trying to resolve our present political impasse. The chairwoman has shown by her intervention and statement that there is some hope for and usefulness of the regional body (something I and many others have questioned). The region needs more of her.
Thanks Mia!
Yours faithfully,
