An unbeaten century from Ramesh Narine as well as a seven-wicket haul from Punraj Singh were the stand out performances as the Essequibo Coast T20 bash continued on Sunday at several venues.
At the Reliance Ground, hosts Reliance Hustlers defeated Crown XI by 89 runs. Hustlers won the toss and reached 262 for 3 from their allotted overs with Narine scoring 107. Abdool Nadir supported with 80 while Mark Austin made 36. S. Rajbanie (1-17) and R. Taijballi (1-33) were the sole wicket takers.
In reply, Crown XI managed 173 for seven when their overs ended. B. Dasrat and A. Persaud made 26 each while S. Fraser picked up three for 24 and M. Pearson returned 2-33.
In the other match at the venue, Sparwin defeated Rebels while at the Imam Bacchus Ground, Bacchus Bulls secured a 10-wicket win over Lima United. Singh grabbed seven wickets for just eight runs while Lallbachan Narine picked up three for 16 to rout Lima for a paltry 29 in 7.1 overs. Bulls then raced to 30 without loss in four overs.
Meanwhile, over at Pomona Ground, Cotton Field Strikes defeated Jaguars Over-40 by 87 runs. Led by a top score of 51 from Carlos Yhap and 28 from Rajeev Kasson, Strikes piled on 170 for five in 20 overs before Rajendra Benni returned to pick up four for 16 and bowl out Jaguars for 84 in 16.4 overs. He was supported by Ghansham Jainarine and Eon Dookie with two wickets each.
Later in the day at the venue, Aurora Knight Riders beat New Opportunity Corps (NOC) by 28 runs. Knight Riders batted first and posted 138 all out in 19 overs with Norwayne and Norman Fredericks scoring 32 and 22 runs respectively. Miguel Jones (2-18), Akenie Adams (2-20) and Joshua Paul (2-30) were the principal wicket takers for NOC. The correctional center was then kept at bay by Garfield Phillips (4-9) and Saif Ally (3-23), managing 111 all out. David Willams made 30 and Kevon Boodie 23.
Over at Golden Fleece, the hosts defeated Scheme Gunners by three wickets. Gunners were contained to 74 for six in 15 overs. Extras contributed the most with 28 while Moses Ferria made 14. Golden Fleece reached 77 for seven in 12.5 overs with S. Horrilall making 20. R. Latchman, I. Wahab and R. Mohamed picked up two wickets each.
Young Achievers, despite being bowled out for 77, secured a 35-run win over Jaguars SC. Achievers only double figure score came from Nouraj Mohan as A. Thomas bagged 4-10 and A. Wazim 3-11. However, Jaguars SC were woeful in their batting as they were shot out for 42 in 11.3 overs. Danesh Narine and Navesh Ramdial picked up three wickets each.
At Affiance Ground, the home side beat Spartan Challengers by 73 runs. Affiance made 182 for four with D. Sookdeo top scoring with 62 and Yogesh Singh making 44. Adjhoda Lall and Kushial Hemraj took two wickets each. Challengers replied with 109 all out in 16.4 overs with Alex Clementson hitting 45. Ganesh Mangal and Omesh Yogeshur bagged three wickets each.
Later, WD’s Gunners suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Queenstown. Gunners made 119 for eight with Damian Warten making 25 and Akil Wallace picking up four for 33. Queenstown then reached 120 for five in 16 overs compliments of Jonathan Fernandes’ 70. Suresh Persaud returned 3-26.
In the third match at the ground, Walton Hall SC brushed aside United Warriors by 36 runs. Batting first, Walton Hall managed 164 for six with Vishwanauth Lall top scoring with 54. S. Boucher grabbed 4-25.
In reply, United could only manage 127 for eight with Orlando Jailall scoring 44.
Meanwhile at Walton Hall, Reliance SC lost to Devonshire Castle by 24 runs. Devonshire posted 163 for eight with Anthony Persaud and Dinesh Chattergoon making 44 and 31 respectively. Ravindra Doodnauth returned 4-19 and Basil Persaud 2-37. Reliance replied with 139 for seven with Elroy Stephney scoring 36. Chattergoon picked up 3-28.
In the final match of the round, Rising Stars beat Charity SC by 97 runs. Latchman Rohit blasted 66 while Kemol Savory made 40 to lead Rising Starts to 191 for nine. Sanjeev Ramdeen picked up 4-19 and Hassan Rahim bagged 3-11. Charity were then bowled out for 94 in 15.2 overs with Quintin Sampson taking 4-18.
