V&V All-Stars defeated Belle Vue by 102 runs to win the Elroy round robin T20 tournament Sunday at Belle Vue Sports Club, West Demerara.
V&V won the toss and batted, posting 228 for five from their allotted overs while the hosts could only manage 126 all out in 17.3 overs.
The eventual champions were indebted to Quazim Yusuf who stroked four sixes and five fours on his way to a top score of 57.
Yusuf added 110 for the first wicket alongside Anand Bharrat who made 42. Bharrat struck two fours and two sixes before being trapped leg before wicket by Randy Ramroop (2-37). Ershad Ali then boosted the score with a 46-run cameo, laced with four fours and three sixes while Mahendra Dhanpaul chipped in with 24 not out.
Colin Boucher picked up two for 33 while Ryan Ramcharran returned one for 26 from two overs.
In reply, Ricky Sargeant stymied the chase, returning three for 21 while David Albert supported with two for 12. Kerwin Bennett was left stranded on 39 not out, which featured three sixes and one four.
Paul Ashby made 20 batting at number 10 and added 49 with Bennett while Boucher managed 15 and Seecharran chipped in with 12 but the asking rate kept climbing out of reach for the hosts who imploded.
