Rasville man remanded to prison over three charges of armed robbery

A father of two accused of armed robbery, was yesterday remanded to prison at a Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Phillip English, 23, of Lot 4676, Rasville, made his appearance before Magistrate Dylon Bess to answer to three charges.

It was alleged that on February 10, 2020, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, in company of another and armed with a gun, English robbed Chitram Sookram of one Honda motorcycle valued at $340,000.  It is also alleged, that on March 16, 2020, at Roxanne Burnham Gardens, while in company of another and armed with a gun, the accused robbed Loraine Brower of two gold chains with pendants, worth $85,000.

On March 21, 2020, at West Ruimveldt, in the company of another and armed with a knife, English is also accused of robbing Cleveland Glasgow of two cell phones, valued at $64,000, one wallet valued $7000, for a total of $71,000.

English pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh, in his report, told the court that a firearm was used to commit two of the offences, and the virtual complainant, Loraine Brower, suffered gunshot wounds. Hence, his objection to bail.

The magistrate sided with the prosecutor and as a result, English was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next appearance on May 29th, 2020.

Another man was recently charged in connection with the same offence. The charge stated that on March 16, 2020, at Roxanne Burnham Gardens, while accompanied by another and armed with a gun, Carlton Bourne robbed Loraine Brower of two gold chains carrying pendants, valued at $85,000.
