Dear Editor,
The extremely loud music played daily by the owners of a Carwash Bay in David Street, Kitty, less than a dozen house lots from Queen Street going to the East, continues unabated. This prevails despite police from the Kitty Police Station having gone there several times within the past month. I called the Station a few times to ask the police to take steps to stop this disturbance of people’s equanimity and after some of my calls, the police either did not go to the site or the loud music continued almost immediately after they had left. The police told me that I had to go to the Station to give a statement, which they said was a pre-requisite for them to go to the Bay, seize the musical equipment and charge the owner. So, I went and gave a statement. That was about two weeks ago but the deafening music from that Carwash business continues daily.
I even wrote to this newspaper hoping that my article would have caught the attention of members of the Police Force and even those at the top of the police’s hierarchy and the lawlessness would have been stopped. It is with chagrin that I am saying that my beloved Guyana has become a shameless society where law and order no longer exists and a blind eye is turned to noise nuisance by the authorities assigned to control and prevent it. What should be an easy task that is conducted with alacrity, now appears to be one of complexity and difficulty. We, the residents of Kitty, deserve some attention being given to this issue and look forward to a speedy resolution.
Yours faithfully,
