Dear Editor,
Now that David Hinds, a senior member for the APNU+AFC coalition has made an open call for the destruction of the ballot boxes, “I repeat my proposal here. Scrap this election. Destroy those boxes.” Will he be charged by the police? There can be no clearer dog-whistle to the supporters letting them know in no uncertain terms the election has been lost. I would not even venture to analyze the diatribe for racism; to touch such filth leaves one feeling unclean for a very long time.
The Guyana Police Force has to perform, they may note, that I never criticized their handling of the Bryan Mackintosh incident, all I ask is similar attention be paid to the writings of a columnist in a major newspaper as the ranting of a social commentator. Equality under the law is a principle that must be adhered to at all times.
