The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) says it has arranged for over $1M in care hampers to be given to cancer patients and care providers at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
“The fact that cancer patients are often immune compromised means that they may be at higher risk of health complications from COVID-19. Thus, it is important that cancer patients and care providers adopt the necessary practices that will help to reduce or prevent their chances of contracting the infection,” said Diana Gittens, GTT’s Pinktober Coordinator.
A release from GTT said that the 100 packages were made possible through funds from the company’s Pinktober initiative and will comprise hand sanitizers, liquid hand soap, disinfectant, bleach, gloves, paper towels and Lysol spray.
“Cancer patients and their providers will be contacted throughout the week, and deliveries will be done in small batches to ensure the recommended social distancing practice is followed,” Gittens said.
To date, there have been no reported cases of cancer patients being infected with the virus, the release said.
