Pork knocker charged with manslaughter over killing of father

Almost three weeks after he allegedly shot and killed his father during an argument, a Paramakatoi Village pork knocker Dintus John was yesterday charged with manslaughter and remanded to prison.

The charge states that on March 30, at Siparuni Backdam, Region Eight, John, 21, unlawfully killed 50-year-old Jonathan John of Paramakatoi, North Pakaraimas.

John was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 6.

The matter was adjourned until May 8.

Dintus fled after his father was killed and he was not apprehended until April 9th.

The police had said that investigations revealed that Jonathan and two others, including the accused, were drinking at their camp where an argument ensued.

Dintus allegedly shot Jonathan with a handgun during the row.

The bullet struck Jonathan in his stomach. He was rushed to the Linden Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
