With many households on the breadline due to the lockdown stemming from the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) plan to engage affected families with relief packages.

According to  a letter from Hilbert Foster,  President of the BCB, on the BCB’s Facebook page, at least 200 hampers will be prepared as they look to aid as many families as possible.

“Over the last seventy-two hours, I have received numerous requests from persons who are struggling to survive during this period due to the problems associated with the coronavirus. People are unable to work and many of them are forced to live on one meal per day…I have always stated that under my leadership, the Berbice Cricket Board would be a compassionate body, which would make a positive difference in the lives of others, less fortunate than us. As such, the BCB would be launching a project to share out at least 200 food hampers to the less fortunate and single-parent households. We would be very grateful if you can join us in this noble venture by donating items for the hampers,” Foster stated in the letter.

He made it clear that the body was seeking assistance from the public and overseas-based persons but declared that food supplies not cash was needed.

“As much as possible we would like to avoid collecting cash and as such would be grateful for the food items. Please be assured that all donations would be used for the intended purpose. These are unbelievable times and it is an opportunity to show others that we care,” he stated.

“This is a chance to show that we care and together we can make a difference. There is an old saying that no matter how poor we are, there is always someone poorer than us. Any donation would be welcomed. We look forward to your cooperation especially from our current cricketers, club and board officials, overseas-based berbicians and well-wishers,” Foster stated while noting that the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club has already contributed $50,000 worth of items towards the project.
