Three bandits on Monday robbed a Whim Village, Corentyne, woman after they invaded her home and a Liverpool Village, Corentyne, man while he was walking home along the Whim Main Public Road.
Meena Kumarie, 36, of Lot 7 13th Street, Whim Village, Corentyne, was robbed of two gold finger-rings valued $40,000, one pair of gold earrings valued $5,000 and one A10 Samsung Galaxy phone valued $40,000,
The robbery was reportedly committed on Monday morning around 1:20 am by three masked men armed with cutlasses.
According to information gathered, Kumarie and her daughter, 11, were both asleep when she heard a noise. She then ventured out to her hall area to investigate and was confronted by three men, armed with cutlasses with rags tied around their faces.
The bandits after demanding cash and jewellery from the woman, ripped her finger rings and earrings from her and then made good their escape, after she pleaded with them that she did not have any cash.
Stabroek News was told that the men escaped on foot through nearby Lancaster Village, Corentyne. It has since been discovered that the bandits gained entry to the house through a window.
Meanwhile, Robindra Hansraj, 29, of Lot 37 Liverpool Village, Corentyne, was robbed of an IPhone 6 Plus valued $80,000, one gold chain valued $30,000 and $25,000 cash.
The robbery reportedly occurred around 8:30 pm on Monday evening and was also carried out by three masked men armed with cutlasses and lengths of wood at Whim Village, Corentyne.
According to information gathered, the man, who is an NIS officer, was walking home along the main public road when someone suddenly grabbed him from behind and started to choke him.
He told police, that after he was forced to lie on the ground, two other males arrived and started to lash him about his body.
The perpetrators then grabbed the man’s jewellery and phone then escaped. Hansraj was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries sustained and released.
