Dear Editor,
The recent letter in the Stabroek News on the plight of pensioners is quite revealing and measures as suggested should be considered especially as we have witnessed the impact of this virus on the most vulnerable, that is, seniors over sixty years.
In my particular case as an N.I.S. and government pensioner, I would normally post my life certificates to both agencies, but with the current restrictions on overseas travel and postal service, it is obvious that there would be a considerable delay in having these certificates processed in a timely manner. My last certificate was posted in February 2020 before the virus.
As a consequence, can N.I.S. and the Ministry of Finance advise whether there are any other means of expediting these certificates in order for our pensions to be processed and placed into our Accounts?
Will it be acceptable if we emailed these life certificates to the relevant agencies with the required certification?
Please advise?
Yours faithfully,
D. Sookdeo
