National Basketball coaches Junior Hercules and Lugard Mohan will be participants in a Virtual Coaches Clinic Series hosted by FIBA Americas on behalf of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF).
This was disclosed by Hercules during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday. The programme which is being administered by Tara VanDerveer (Stanford University) and Don Showalter (United States of America Junior Basketball Head Coach), will run for the duration of May 7th-14th.
According to Hercules, who holds the portfolio of Senior Men’s Coach, “Guyana Basketball will benefit immensely in the areas strategy. Mr. Mohan and I will be exposed to coaching from world-class coaches with both domestic and international championship experiences. While I cannot speak for Mr. Mohan I am also hungry for knowledge and always excited about learning new ways of coaching.
He further added, “The exposure, in my opinion, will not only serve to benefit the student-athletes from schools and juniors programmes, National Athletes but also future Guyanese Basketball Olympians. Given that both local coaches are exposed to Guyana Basketball athletes both juniors and seniors the impact is expected to have a positive ripple effect on all local basketball players through coaching.”
Hercules, who is also the National 3×3 coordinator disclosed, “It is my intention to learn not just the x and o’s from the series but also how to coach players with the intention of playing without dominating the ball while still remaining effective.”
