A senior police officer is one of two persons who were left hospitalised on Thursday after a collision along the Johanna Cecelia Public Road, on the Essequibo Coast.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Colin Primus, 33, who is the Officer-in-Charge of Richard Faikall Police Training College, on the Essequibo Coast, and Jacqueline Daniels, 47, of Lot 7 Affiance ,Essequibo Coast, were both listed as patients at the Suddie Public Hospital in serious condition yesterday. Primus suffered a fractured right foot and a laceration to his head, while Daniels, who was travelling in another vehicle with her husband, Tariq Baksh, 42, suffered serious injuries to her neck and back.

The police said the accident occurred around 4.15 pm.

At the time, Primus was driving a car, bearing the registration PVV 9556, while Baksh was driving a hire car, with registration HB 9504.

The police said from their enquiries, the hire car was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the road, reportedly at a fast rate, while Primus was proceeding in the opposite direction. They contend that as Primus was executing a turn, the hire car collided with the left side of the front of his vehicle. The two vehicles ended up on opposite sides of the parapet.

While Baksh suffered head trauma, he was treated at the hospital and subsequently discharged.
