Dear Editor,
I got a landline phone call purporting to come from GTT. A cell number 617 2789 came up on my caller ID.
The person told me on the phone that it was a call from GTT, and he gave a name. Can’t remember the name, and that I have been a good customer to the company as I never owed them and my account is always in credit which is true, and the company wants to show its appreciation.
I was asked if I had a cell phone, and to hear what I would be getting I must dial *100*1*1*and a couple more digits which I can’t remember now. I did hear what I was going to get, but after that I became suspicious about the call when I was told what I would be getting, and to get it I must Top Up with 2,000.00 dollars and then go to the Blackberry store on Brickdam to collect my prize.
I terminated the call at that time, but what I discovered was that all my credit I had in my cell phone was gone.
I used another cell phone and called the number that I quoted earlier, and when connection was made I heard a voice yelling in the background “cut off that phone now!” and then it went dead.
GTT should investigate this matter. What is troubling is that the caller appeared to know some details of my phone records which suggests it could be someone currently or formerly connected to the company.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address supplied)
