Police are investigating the theft of mattresses and other furnishings from a building that is being refurbished for use as a COVID-19 quarantine facility in Lethem, according to Commander for Region Nine Superintendent Keithon King.
King told Sunday Stabroek that the Lethem police are trying to find the perpetrator(s) following the break and enter and larceny.
While he limited information, King said that the police were diligently working to find out who committed the act. He disclosed that 11 mattresses, a refrigerator, two 4-burner gas stoves and a ceiling fan were stolen during the break-in.
“It’s not in operation as yet. They are now setting up the building to house people who need to be quarantined in Lethem,” King explained, while noting that nobody was guarding the building at the time of the break-in as staff has not been appointed as yet.
King added that the police had no leads but assured that the investigation has started.
