Following a highly publicized round of 16 section, the quarterfinal zone in the inaugural iBet Supreme FIFA 20 ‘League of Champions’ eSports Championship, will kick-off tonight with the respective opening legs of the two match series.
Several high-profile continental matches are scheduled amongst the elite European teams, with Spain, England and France represented.
In the opening match at 19:00hrs, Emuwnah Pross (Real Madrid CF) will oppose Lorenzo Forde (Paris Saint Germain). This will be followed by surprise package Pernell Cummings (Manchester United United) locking horns with Marvin Johnson (Liverpool) at 19:30hrs in an all English affair.
In the third contest, Akeem Allicock (FC Barcelona) will match skills with Jonathan Hutson (Manchester City) from 20:00hrs, with Shaquone Prince (Manchester City) and Tevin Bremner (Liverpool) doing battle at 20:30hrs in another English derby.
Michelangelo Jacobus, administrator of the tournament, during brief remarks said, “As a pioneer of eSports and this being our first step into this arena, I could not have hoped for a better level of competition. The round of 16 has been completed and we had several close encounters, tough luck to some of the participants who were level on aggregate but went out on away goals.”
He added, “Obviously this being our first tournament, we’ve encountered some challenges, but these have been taken in stride and definitely in the future, things will improve. The internet has been a thorn in our side, some of the contestants have been affected by ‘lagging’ which poses a difficulty for any online gamer. However, kudos to them for toughing it out. In time I certainly hope the service providers will improve their standards.
“The final eight that are left have all shown a high level of quality, and, as a reward for their class, myself and iBet personnel will be providing ranking and seeding for the next tournament where they will be special invitees. This, of course, will be based on criteria inclusive of goals scored and goals conceded as well as margins of victory. That being said, I’m excited for the next stage in the tournament, the competitors themselves are buzzing and we all look forward to what it brings. The final and third-place playoff will be held on May 9th.”
The event is being contested using an elimination two legged format and will consist of players battling with their favorite European club for bragging rights and the label of best in the nation. It is also being streamed online via the official iBet Supreme Facebook page.
The first prize is $50,000, two pennyweights of gold, a trophy, a case of Monster Energy Drink and a special Church’s Chicken Meal. The second prize is $25,000, a case of Monster Energy Drink and a Church’s Chicken meal.
The third prize is $15,000, a case of Monster Energy Drinks as well as Church’s Chicken meal.
Sponsors of the event are iBet Supreme, Banks DIH under their Monster Energy Drink, Church’s Chicken, A&A Gamespot, Smoke Shack and NCN, who are programmed to stream the semifinals, third place and final. Below features the list of quarterfinal matches for the first leg.
