Dear Editor,
Various media outfits continue to disseminate statistics related to the existence of COVID-19 in Guyana. It appears that reporting the tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases is the priority.
The singular statistic of the totality of confirmed cases can create a sense of panic among citizens, as some may not be careful to digest the distinction between active cases and total cases.
I advance the view that equal priority should be given to reporting the number of active cases. Report them alongside each other. At some point, the latter statistic may be of greater relevance, giving a sense of the progress being made in the fight against the virus. It may help deflate/ease the anxiety of many.
Yours faithfully,
Gaven Houston
