Dear Editor,
The Mayor and Councillors of Georgetown’s COVID-19 task force committee urges citizens to comply with the regulatory guidelines set by the task force.
Enforcement was carried out by the City Constabulary Department (Constab Department) of the Georgetown City Council. Officers of the Constab Department arrested and charged seven vendors who operated at the Bourda and Stabroek markets for not wearing a face mask while conducting their business.
His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown Mr. Ubraj Narine had announced that from May 6, 2020 vendors, stallholders and their staff are required to wear face masks throughout the duration of their operations; failing to wear a mask will result in a penalty of five thousand dollars.
The Council is calling upon all citizens to observe all guidelines: wear a mask when outdoors, observe social distancing, practice hand washing and take all the necessary precautions during this pandemic to remain safe. The Constabulary Department will continue to carry out checks at the Municipal Markets to ensure that vendors and stallholders comply with the guidelines.
Yours faithfully,
Debra Lewis
