Ganesh Dhanraj, one of the two murder accused who escaped from the Lusignan Prison last month, was recaptured yesterday.
The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) said in a statement yesterday that Dhanraj, 32, was held by police around 2.10 pm at the Parika Bus Park, where he was seen in a car.
The GPS said police, acting on information received, went to the park and questioned Dhanraj, and then escorted him to the Parika Police Station, where he was further questioned and positively identified as the escapee.
Prison authorities, on receipt of the notification, went to the Parika Police Station, where they also confirmed his identity. He was then transported to prison. The GPS commended the police for their swift action and members of the public for feeling safe and confident to provide the information on his whereabouts to the police. Dhanraj was one of four prisoners who escaped from the Lusignan Prison Holding Bay on April 20, 2020. The other escapees were murder accused Kenraul Perez, 26, of Mabaruma, North West District, Anthony Padmore, 26, of Ogle Street, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, and Sasnarine Bisnauth, 24, of Lot 22 Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo. Padmore and Bisnauth were subsequently recaptured. The GPS had said that investigations revealed that the escape took place during “heavy rainfall.”
