Trinidad: Brothers, 13, and 7, drown at quarry

(Trinidad Express) Two brothers are suspected to have drowned at a pool at a quarrying site in Valencia.

Paul Soogrim, 13 and Jason Soogrim, seven years old, were pronounced dead at the scene. They lived at Capana Road and went to the abandoned pool with a 45 year old neighbour, a police report said.

The neighbour told police that while they were walking towards the pool, the children ran ahead of him and he lost sight of them.

He told police that that when he reached the pool he saw the children in difficulties in the water.

He said he dived in and tried to save them but he too got into difficulty and came out of the pool.

He told police he raised an alarm and by the time he reached back the children were unresponsive. Ag Cpl Baksh and other officers of the Valencia Police post and Emergency Response Unit responded. The bodies were taken to the Sangre Grande mortuary for autopsies on Monday.
