A Number 49 Village resident was discovered dead in his home yesterday morning with a head injury.
However, investigators believe that Shaheed Ishmile, also known as ‘Rafeek,’ 52, of Lot 100 Number 49 Village, Corentyne, suffered the injury in a fall.
According to information gathered, the injury was noticed just above Ishmile’s forehead after his body was discovered.
Ishmile’s sister, Bibi Singh, told Stabroek News that the man lived alone.
According to the woman, her brother would venture out of the house everyday to sit and “cuss outside”.
However, she said that after noticing that the man had not come out of his house for the past two days, his brother decided to check on him.
It was Ishmile’s brother who discovered his lifeless body in the house yesterday around 8.45 am.
Singh further related that Ishmile, who had diabetes, had to have one of his legs amputated a few years ago.
Commander of Region Six Calvin Brutus yesterday said, that it is suspected that the man may have fallen as there were no signs of forced entry noticed at his house.
Brutus then stressed that an investigation has been opened and Ishmile’s brother and other persons were questioned as per the norm in such probes. However, he added that investigators will have to await a post-mortem examination to know the exact cause of the man’s death.
