A 39-year-old man succumbed at a city hospital on Friday afternoon, almost a day after he was stabbed while allegedly trying to disarm his brother at their Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home.
Cleveland Hodge, also known as “Bruk Up,” of Lot 411 Buzz Bee Dam, Craig succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Friday.
Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan confirmed that the fatal stabbing took place around 3.10 pm on Thursday.
He said the suspect, Hodge’s 44-year-old brother, who has a mental illness, is presently in police custody.
Hodge and his brother lived together.
Sunday Stabroek was told that the investigation has so far revealed that on Thursday afternoon, Hodge observed that his brother had a knife in his possession.
In an effort to prevent him from harming himself, Hodge approached him with a view to disarming him. However, as he got closer, the man allegedly slashed Hodge’s hands as he was using them to protect himself.
The suspect then reportedly inflicted more stab wounds to Hodge’s left shoulder and right arm.
Public-spirited citizens were alerted and Hodge was later rushed to the Diamond Hospital, where he was treated and sent away the same night.
However, hours after, Hodge complained of feeling unwell and he was taken back to the hospital, where he was readmitted.
He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed around 1.39 pm on Friday while receiving medical attention.
