Up to midday yesterday, 12 persons had been tested by the mobile COVID-19 unit deployed to Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
Yesterday was the last of the unit’s three-day operation and members of the team observed that some persons were not taking the necessary precautions needed to stay safe. As a result, they encouraged persons to adhere to the COVID-19 precautions set out by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
Stabroek News during a visit to the testing site, also observed persons without face masks, minibuses with three persons in a seat and persons wearing their face masks incorrectly.
Dr Keon Harmon, head of the team, reported that they had screened 16 persons and tested 12 in the time spent in the community.
Dr Harmon also called on persons to be more mindful of others and to practice frequent hand washing, use of face masks, and to adhere to physical distancing.
A significant percentage of persons who have tested positive for COVID-19 virus have been asymptomatic and this has raised concerns and led to calls for the public to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Ministry.
