(Trinidad Express) Barataria police are investigating the circumstances which led to the death of a woman in Aranjuez last Thursday night.
She has been identified as motehr of one, Christine Preston.
The Express was told that the incident took place at about 11 p.m. along the east-bound lane of the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway. At the time, Preston was the front passenger in a white Nissan Almera. The car was being driven by a 32-year-old man from Trincity. The police were told that the two were having an argument at the time, and Preston allegedly pulled the steering wheel of the car.
This cause the vehicle to swerve into the embankment on the northern side of the road. Both Preston and the driver were thrown from the car.
Preston, police said, landed in the drain, while the driver landed on the grass. Persons who witnessed the accident notified the police and Emergency Health Services. While they were awaiting the arrival of officials, the Almera burst into flames. Fire officers had to be called in to contain the blaze.
The two injured individuals were rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for treatment where Preston succumbed to her injuries.
This incident has pushed the number of road deaths for 2020 up to 46. The comparative for the same period last year was 57.
