Dear Editor,
In his letter `Guyanese likely to be the perennial losers again no matter who wins the elections’ (SN, 5th June 2020) Mr Emile Mervin seems to have lost hope in Guyana ever being successful.
I have not lost hope in Guyana being successful but rather have an understanding (which I am sure most Guyanese have) that the politicians are incapable of resolving Guyanese problems. Yet, Guyanese keeps recycling these same politicians to solve their problems.
The issue is not just a political problem as whichever political party gets into power will be dealing with the same Public Servants and systems in place.
What is actually happening in Guyana is that the “Young Turks”(to coin a phrase) are being indoctrinated by the “Old Guards” on both sides of the political divide leading to a continued cycle of division.
Some of the current players need to just leave the political scene. We need progressive thinking Guyanese to resolve Guyanese problems. Progressive thinking Guyanese who are willing to compromise on issues.
We need a group of people who are willing to work for the betterment of all Guyanese and not people who opportunistically gave themselves a 50% pay rise for doing nothing.
Does such a group of Guyanese exists and how do we find them?
Yours faithfully
Sean Ori
