A team from the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is to meet today with Commissioner of Police Leslie James for a discussion on security matters of national importance.
Last Thursday, a letter headed “request for urgent meeting” which was signed by PPP Executive Member Anil Nandlall was sent to James.
In the letter, General Secretary of the PPP Bharrat Jagdeo requested a meeting with James on Monday, June 8th.
“The General Secretary of the People Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) requests a meeting with you on Monday, 8th June, 2020, at a time convenient to you to discuss certain security concerns of public importance,” the letter stated.
However, the meeting was not held on Monday. Rather, it is scheduled for 10.30am today at James’ Eve Leary office.
Jagdeo is expected to be accompanied by a team from the party including Nandlall and Prime Ministerial Candidate Mark Phillips.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that among the matters that are expected to be discussed are the maintenance of law and order and the protection of citizens and properties should there be any violent incident/s in the aftermath of the recently concluded recount of votes.
The party is also calling for tough actions to make taken against anyone who tries to incite racial animosity.
The force’s Deputy Commissioners and Crime Chief Michael Kingston are also expected to be part of the meeting.
