A 22-year-old man was shot and killed yesterday afternoon by a licensed firearm holder at One Mile, Wismar, Linden.
The dead man has been identified as Kevin Orin Batson of Victory Valley, Linden.
Regional Commander Hugh Winter confirmed the incident which occurred sometime around 2 pm at Lot 432 One Mile, Linden.
Herbert Campbell popularly known as ‘Sadam’ was the victim’s target. Campbell owns and operates a hardware store.
Investigations, this newspaper was told revealed that Batson and his accomplice allegedly robbed Campbell of a quantity of cash, his cellular phone and other valuables before escaping on foot.
The suspects were subsequently confronted by Campbell, who discharged several rounds at them. Batson was struck.
The duo then ran in different directions. The police, who were reportedly in the area at the time were alerted and they cornered Batson.
His accomplice was later arrested at a house in Victory Valley. The police recovered a firearm and two rounds in his possession.
