Residents of Tain Settlement, Corentyne were left in a state of shock yester-day morning, after a well-known pensioner was found murdered in her house.
Chandradarie Budhu, 83, also known as `Aunty Deo’, of Lot 83 Tain Settlement was found bound and murdered in her house around 7.30 am.
Stabroek News was told that a piece of cloth was used to tie her feet together while her hands were tied with two pieces of cloth and a white bedsheet was stuffed into her mouth and then tied around her neck.
The Police said she was found bleeding from the nose and with abrasions to her neck.
Budhu’s body was removed from her house just before 11 am by police officers and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Stabroek News was told that based on information received two persons, ages 21 and 31, from within the area were held for ques-tioning while police are on the hunt for two others.
According to a police source, the persons in custody reside in the street where Budhu lived. Furthermore, the source noted that several latex gloves were found at the scene of the crime.
According to neighbours the woman has been living alone for most of her life.
Her caretaker, Lilowtie Samaroo also known as `Devika’, said, she ventur-ed over to the woman’s house as she does every morning to assist with cleaning. However, she said, it struck her as odd that Budhu was not yet awake since she would get up every morning and wait on Samaroo to arrive.
“I see the chain deh on pon the gate and me know she does deh sit down pon the rocker when I go every morning so me go in and me a call pon she”, the caretaker explained.
Samaroo then discover-ed that the woman’s kitchen door located to the side of the house was wide open.
“Me think she deh in the bathroom but she na respond to me but when me go in the kitchen me see all them plastic bag pack up and deh corner and me start holla and run out back”.
Samaroo then sought the assistance of two neighbours. “Them boy go in and me tell them go in the room and check and when them come out them say like she dead and deh ground”.
Budhu’s neighbour, Dhanraj Singh said that he rushed over after Samaroo raised an alarm and saw the woman lying flat in the room with her face down. “Me see some cloth tie she up and the sponge come off from the bed and she deh flat down”, he relayed.
Aston Deonarine, one of Budhu’s few relatives in Guyana, said “I come and heard they said they saw her on the floor presumably dead so I think the best thing was to go get the police”.
He said he only saw the body while it was being removed and all he noticed was her feet bound, her hands tied and a sheet wrapped around her neck.
According to the man, the entire house was ransacked, “They break the inside step door to gain access to upstairs”, he relayed.
Deonarine added that this was the third time Budhu had been attacked. He said the two previous times persons broke into her house and assaulted and robbed her.
He said the first attack was last year and the second was sometime in early February.
According to him, Budhu pleaded to not have the police involved in those matters since her attackers had threatened that if she reported the incidents they would return to kill her.
Deonarine said he is unsure if Budhu had any valuables in the house since the perpetrators from the previous attack had stolen all of her jewellery.
“She stop keep money since the last time. She does only get she pension. Them been thief out all she jewellery and so”, he noted.
Meanwhile, residents of the area described Budhu as an extremely kind and caring person. They recalled that the woman was last seen sitting on the bench on her bridge on Tuesday afternoon as she would normally do every day. “She does walk with walker and she does come out and sit down and we does come and sit with her and gaff”, one neighbour said.
Another noted, “This thing really shake us up. Nuff abie does live by abie self and it get wicked people in this village… Them really na get feelings man”.
