Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Head-coach Junior Hercules has revealed that he has completed a draft of the Level One Coach’s Training Manual and Syllabus, which will be presented upon its completion to the local governing body.
This was disclosed during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday. According to Hercules, the draft will consider several principles and standards which are essential to the development of the sport amid the issues relevant to the local landscape.
He added that among the major issues addressed are “1. When are coaches expected to function in the overall development of basketball? 2. Why are Coaches Central to the Development of the Sport? 3. How can a coach leverage the resources to better equip the players and 4. Where are coaches most needed? The manual will depict the relationship and skill needed to execute the functions of a Coach- Player, and Team while taking into consideration the socio-economic and cultural relevance to Guyana.”
Hercules further disclosed that while the general framework has been completed, the organizing of the specifics will be concluded at another period. He added, “I have completed the content and general framework for the manual however organizing the details will require some time and consultation.”
He further revealed that a roll out of the programme could possibly occur in the month of February. Hercules added, “Holding all things constant, the end of July.”
