Former educator and author Joyce Sinclair, who earned a reputation for serving the public sector with distinction, died at her Queenstown, Georgetown home yesterday morning.
Sinclair was 84.
Her brother, Donald Sinclair, told Sunday Stabroek last evening that his sister was found dead in her bedroom at around 7:30am yesterday.
Joyce lived with one of her sisters at Lot 231 Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Georgetown. The educator worked at a number of entities over the years during which she provided services in areas such as training, education, counseling and management.
She was also a teacher at the Bishops’ High School.
The Bishops’ High School Old Students’ Association, in a post on Facebook yesterday, expressed condolences to Joyce’s family and friends.
“…Ms Sinclair was a crusader of social development in Guyana and served our nation with distinction. She will surely be missed by all,” the post read.
In 1983, Sinclair was awarded the Golden Arrow of Achievement (AA) by the Government of Guyana for her contribution to Education and Public Service.
For a period, she served as the Permanent Secretary at the Public Service Ministry.
Sinclair conducted customer service training programmes and prepared manuals for both private and public sector entities.
Additionally, she published at least three books. Her last, titled ‘High Quality Customer Care for Polishing Your Tele-phone Manners’, was launched in 2009.
