The police in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are investigating the death of a teenager, who died hours after she was allegedly beaten by her boyfriend last Wednesday.
Rehanna Rahaman, 18, of Karawab village, Pomeroon, was one month pregnant at the time of her death.
Regional Commander Crystal Robinson yesterday confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into Rahaman’s death.
She said that the police have been receiving conflicting reports as to what transpired. As a result, Robinson noted, investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine how Rahaman met her demise.
The autopsy, which was supposed to be conducted yesterday, has been deferred until Thursday.
Stabroek News understands that the teen, who lived with her grandmother, was involved in a heated argument with her boy-friend. During the arguments, she was allegedly beaten about her body.
Rahaman’s grandmother later called out for her several times but got no answers. As a result, she went to check for her and discovered her lying in an unconscious state.
Rahaman was rushed to the Charity Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
