A 24-year-old father of two is now dead after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a culvert at Blenheim, Leguan in the wee hours of yesterday.

Dead is Phillip Sooklall of Lot 30 Endeavour, Leguan. The man is said to have suffered multiple head injuries and was likely under the influence of alcohol. Following the accident he was rushed to the Leguan Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The accident occurred at approximately 00.35 hours yesterday.

According to the man’s father, Alvin Sooklall, his son who is employed as a porter with a grocer living on the island, was on the night of the incident said to be drinking at his employer’s brother’s home in Endeavour. The elder Sooklall said he learnt from Phillip’s employer and the man’s brother that unbeknownst to them, Phillip took the keys to the motorcycle which belonged to the brother of his employer, and left. The dead man’s father said he is unsure where his son was going as he lives in Endeavour and the accident occurred in Blenheim, a neighbouring village and also the same village he (the father) lives in. It is possible, Alvin said, that his son was on his way to his place.

His post-mortem is scheduled for today.

Phillip leaves to mourn his pregnant wife and his two children, ages 3 and 2 along with his parents.

Police are investigating the accident.
