Police have arrested a person of interest in relation to the shooting death of a Kitty construction worker which occurred just after daybreak on June 22 in Agricola.
A police source told Stabroek News that the arrest of the suspect was made on Tuesday. The man remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today, the police source added.
The deceased Tyron Duesbury, 27, was struck by a bullet while he was inside a car with four others. The shooting occurred between 12:30am and 1am. It is unclear if Duesbury, of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was shot in a crossfire or if he and his companions were targeted.
Police Commander of Region Four (A) Senior Superintendent Phillip Azore had told Stabroek News that investigations have revealed that Duesbury and others had ventured to the village where a party was reportedly taking place. Upon arriving at Brutus Street, they saw a crowd of approximately 100 persons.
Duesbury and his companions, the Commander said, drove by the crowd and witnessed a brawl. They were turning around the vehicle when they heard several explosions, which were suspected to be gunshots.
Duesbury reportedly told the others in the car that he had been shot and upon investigating they saw him bleeding from his mouth.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
