The body of the Assistant Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Anil Persaud is expected to be cremated today.
Persaud passed away on Wednesday at around 15.30 hours while on his way to the hospital.
According to persons close to the deceased, he had returned from work early after complaining about “not feeling well.”
The 48-year-old Level Two certified coach is remembered by his peers as being “a very active” member of the junior selection panel and could be seen at many of the matches around the city.
Persaud was also known for his volunteerism throughout East Coast Demerara due to his instrumental role in the East Coast Cricket Committee and the Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club.
Since his passing, a number of cricket bodies and athletes have expressed sadness on the passing of the administrator.
Among those were the GCB who stated in a release, “It is with great sadness that the executives of the GCB express condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Anil Persaud, GCB’s Assistant Secretary, on his sudden passing. Anil was known to the cricket fraternity for his active participation in the growth of cricket in the fields of coaching, selection and administration at the association, county and national levels.”
The release added, “Anil’s positively impactful knowledge and unwavering commitment will be truly missed. The executives and cricket fraternity mourn the loss of a valuable board member and long-standing friend.”
Meanwhile, President of the Berbice Cricket Board, Hilbert Foster, who also is the Chief Executive Officer of Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club has extended condolences to Persaud’s family.
“Deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the late Anil Persaud,” said Foster in a brief message.
According to information received by this publication, viewing will take place at Jerrick’s Parlour from 08.00-08.30am hours before heading to Good Hope Crematorium for cremation at 10am.
