Guyana not on UK list of 59 exempted from COVID-19 quarantine

In an early sign of how the COVID-19 spread here might impact on the ability of Guyanese to fly, Guyana is not on a list of 59 countries identified by the UK whose residents will not need to be quarantined for a mandatory 14 days on arrival.

Several Caribbean countries are on the list of exempted including Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica,  Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas and Dominica.

“From 10 July 2020, unless they have visited or stopped in any other country or territory in the preceding 14 days, passengers arriving from the following countries and territories will not be required to self-isolate on arrival into England,” the UK’s government website states as it lists the countries. (See entire list of 59 at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-travel-corridors)

Before arrival in the UK, it is a requirement of the country that all passengers complete a passenger locator form and present it on arrival. “This applies to both visitors and UK residents,” the website states.

The non-exemption is a signal that this country is still considered a risk to persons being exposed to the novel corona virus, that has seen the numbers here climbing recently with 15 deaths and 273 infections recorded.

The government of the United Kingdom says that travelers should continue to monitor the GOV.UK for travel advice and check also the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website for country specific information regularly, as the information may change.

Since the closure of airports here back in April, a UK Government-chartered humanitarian flight on May 8th, repatriated 91 British Nationals, their dependents and other eligible persons to London.
