Anthony Lowe, the demolition worker who was pinned on Wednesday after a Banks DIH building that was being demolished collapsed, remained in “critical” condition up to last evening.
Lowe, 27, of Lot 23 Second Street, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, is a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Ketitia Waithe, the wife of the patient, told Stabroek News that Lowe suffered received injuries to his head, face, hands and lungs and was in a critical state as a result.
A relative of Waithe noted that Lowe was admitted to surgery last evening before being admitted to the ICU, where he currently remains.
The father of four was employed with the Home Design and Engineering Associates for approximately five to six years.
Waithe stated that the company has reached out and is offering to stand any expense that Lowe’s family may incur at this time.
When contacted, GPH Communications Manager Chelauna Providence confirmed Lowe’s condition and explained that a laceration to his head is the main reason for him being in a critical condition.
Jagmohan Bissessar, 61, of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, and formerly of Belle Plaine, Wakenaam, died as a result of the collapse.
Motiram Jagmohan, the son of the deceased, told this newspaper that he received word about the accident around 4 pm on Wednesday and was told to go to GPH.
Not sure what had occurred, Jagmohan said he immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was greeted with the news that his father had passed.
Jagmohan said his father was employed with Home Design and Engineering Associates for two and a half years.
He noted that he received a contact number for someone on site, and was awaiting a return call.
Meanwhile, a representative of the company, who asked not to be named, said, “as they stand currently, an incident did occur on Wednesday and from the company’s standpoint we are still in an investigation process, so that we will be able to narrow down exactly what transpired to arrive at a final report to put together. As of right now we are still at a preliminary stage.”
He said three other workers, Neil Fredericks, Hoslton Melville and Bhisham Sanichar, suffered minor injuries in the accident.
