De facto Public Health Minister, Volda Lawrence says that healthcare workers suffer “excruciating torments” whenever they came up short in providing critical services for their patients especially those needing medical care for COVID-19.
“Healthcare workers bear a lot of emotional and mental stress due to their inability to provide the necessary services for patients. Many persons do not understand the impact it has on healthcare workers when they have someone’s life in their hands and do not have the necessary equipment which will help in saving those lives,” Lawrence was quoted as saying.
According to a Ministry of Public Health release, Lawrence made the disclosure during yesterday’s handing-over ceremony of eight portable ventilators to the Ministry of Public Health by Republic Bank to aid in the country’s fight against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
She said that the equipment will benefit many families and help to buttress the ongoing fight against several diseases attacking citizens.
Republic Bank’s representative, Denise Hobbs, who handed over the equipment, declared that the financial institution has made a commitment to help its customers overcome economic challenges during this period of uncertainty. “We feel strongly about our corporate social responsibility as often demonstrated through our power to ‘Make a Difference Programme’, to provide assistance to the people and communities we serve”, Hobbs said.
She assured that Republic Bank understands the social challenges facing the nation and its corps of dedicated healthcare workers who continue to wrestle the effects of the deadly viral disease sweeping the globe, the release added.
