Following the recovery of three of its residents, the Palms Geriatric Home is now COVID-19 free, according to the Ministry of Social Protection.
In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry revealed that three residents, Robert Baiku, 66, Cleo Brotherson, 69, and Gaitree Kaloutie, 57, have recovered.
The statement said the three patients will spend a few days in the facility’s Infirmary before they are moved to the general ward.
Already seven other residents, including Zorie De Mattos, 105, and Rosaline Hamilton, 91, have recovered after testing positive for COVID-19. The other residents who recovered were: Sheila Gill, Fazil Mohamed, Kaysonauth Sagar, Meryl Thomas, and Carmen Hopkinson.
Two other residents, Bhuneshwar Ramdeholl, and John Allan Daymon, 78, succumbed as a result of COVID-19.
“COVID-19 presented unprecedented challenges to the Palms and our team. Thanks to the perseverance of our staff and the guidance from the Georgetown Public Hospital, 10 residents have fully recovered and there are no COVID-19 resident cases currently in the facility. With the continued health and safety of our residents being our primary concern, we have conducted additional staff and resident retesting to further verify that our home is completely free of COVID-19,” Director of Social Services Whentworth Tanner, was quoted as saying by the ministry.
The ministry also applauded persons who worked tirelessly to ensure the COVID 19 patients were given around-the-clock care.
