A Lusignan resident was on Sunday last chopped in front his home by a number of Spanish-speaking men.
The severely injured man’s name was given as Safraz Khan of Grass Field, Lusignan, by neighbours in the area. According to those who live nearby, Khan and a few other friends were in front of his house imbibing and making jokes with people who passed by. “They had a get together and when people pass them mek trouble with and they laugh and suh and me ain’t know like them trouble the wrong person,” the neighbour who did not want to be identified, said.
“Sometime in the afternoon bout 5:30 time, two cars pull up and them man jump out and start chase them man with [cutlass]… and the next morning we wake up we hear he get chop up,” he recounted.
The neighbour went on to say that the men who exited the two vehicles were all Spanish speaking and were wielding weapons.
It is unclear whether or not there was an initial grievance that may have sparked the confrontation that has left Khan hospitalised.
Residents of the area explained that Khan isn’t known to be a person involved in any troublemaking or illegal activity.
Khan, who was said to be a seine knitter and also worked at sea, was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a critical condition and up to press time was listed to be in a stable condition.
