The family of the Number 4 Village pensioner who was hit by a motorcar at Number 6 Village is worried as he is still recovering at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
While Erick Boodhoo, 64, of Lot 13 Number 4 Village, West Coast Berbice, is still in hospital after suffering several injuries in the accident that occurred July 2, his family say that they are worried about the slow recovery due to his ‘old’ age.
Speaking with one of his nine siblings yesterday, Norma (only name given), said that she and his other siblings are concerned that because he “is big in age”, he might take longer to recover from his injuries. She said that her brother was supposed to undergo surgeries for his injuries but complained that the surgeries “didn’t do much” as her brother is still suffering from a fractured shoulder.
She said that he has also complained about pain from his rib injuries and since the pelvic fracture repair, he now has fluid draining from the bandaged wounds. She is currently very concerned for her brother she said.
She also noted that one of the broken toes he suffered has since been cast but his broken leg isn’t.
Previously she had mentioned that Boodhoo suffered a broken rib, broken right leg, broken toe, a future to his right shoulder and three broken neck bones in the accident.
Regional Commander for Region 5, Woman Superintendent Yonette Stephen had explained that Boodhoo was riding a bicycle and as he crossed the road, he rode in front of a motorcar and received injuries resulting from the collision. He was taken to Fort Wellington Hospital, transferred to New Amsterdam Hospital and then admitted to the Georgetown Hospital. She noted that the driver was arrested but later released on station bail after he passed a Breathalyzer test.
Investigations are ongoing.
