(Jamaica Gleaner) A close relative has reportedly confessed to hiring the hitman who murdered 36-year-old Trelawny resident Tamara Geddes inside her Reserve district bedroom three weeks ago.
A senior investigator revealed that the suspect and her mother –who is not related to the deceased – remain in police custody for further questioning.
During an interview, the close relative allegedly gave a caution statement in which she admitted to hiring the man who killed Geddes.
When Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, commander of the Trelawny police, was contacted about the confession, he did not confirm or deny the allegation. However, he did say that the relative and her mother were in custody and were being questioned by investigators.
A family member of the suspect’s confirmed on Wednesday that the two women were in police custody.
There are reports that there was bad blood between Geddes and the suspect.
“She (Geddes) and her relative have been having a series of personal disputes for a while, and the conflict recently escalated,” said the family member, who said he was not surprised by the alleged confession.
The Clark’s Town police, who are driving the investigations, told The Gleaner that they were combing the parish in search of the trigger man, who killed Geddes in the presence of her 10-year-old daughter.
Following the killing, investigators reported that they had picked up two men. However, following questioning, they were both released.
Police reports are that about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 19, Geddes and her daughter were inside a bedroom when a masked man forced his way inside and held them at gunpoint.
The gunman reportedly demanded money and proceeded to rob Geddes of $16,000 in cash and two cell phones. The man then demanded sex, but his request was refused. He then opened fire on Geddes, killing her.
