I note, with deep concern, the attempt at dog whistling by my colleague, Vincent Alexander, Commissioner of GECOM in a missive to the press dated 17th July, 2020.
The primary and deliberate misinformation therein seeks to elevate the mere unfounded allegations raised during the recount process to proven facts. It is a matter of public notoriety that no evidence was tendered to support the allegations made during the recounts, except a few death certificates presented in isolation and without nexus.
Importantly, the decision of the Commission supported by a plethora of case law is that it has no jurisdiction, in any event, to investigate or pronounce upon the allegations aforesaid. This was confirmed by the recent decision of the Caribbean Court of Justice in the Eslyn David case which stated that the established route for dealing with these matters is an Election Petition.
What my colleague has deliberately ignored, but in fact appears to countenance, is the insidious fraud perpetrated by Clairmont Mingo, and he advocates the use of declarations based upon same.
It is in recognition of this rank fraud that David Granger and Bharrat Jagdeo agreed, with the assistance of PM Mia Mottley, to a recount of all ballots cast in the 2nd March, 2020 Elections.
One can seek to berate and abuse every messenger who calls out his complicity in thwarting the will of the electorate, but it does not change the facts.
