An 18-year-old miner was stabbed to death during an argument at Marudi Backdam, South Rupununi minutes after midnight Sunday and the suspect, a Venezuelan national has since been arrested.
Shadrech Martin of Aishalton Village, South Rupununi was stabbed in his chest during the incident which occurred around 00.20hrs Sunday.
The suspect, a 16-year-old Venezuelan is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Stabroek News was told that at the time of the incident, Martin and the suspect were at a shop at Marudi Backdam where a birthday party was being held for one of the shop owner’s employees.
Reports are that Martin and the suspect were imbibing when they were involved in a heated argument over a female, who was at the said party.
The suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Martin.
Martin was rushed to the Aishalton Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspected murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
