Attorney-at-law Latchmie Rahamat is expected to serve as the prosecutor in the preliminary inquiry into the charge against Zaheer Hussein, the Riverview, Ruimveldt man charged with murdering visiting New York resident Alexie Gomes.
The case was called yesterday and Hussein, of Lot 1 Riverview, Ruimveldt, made his appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan via zoom.
Rahamat told this newspaper that she is hoping to have a copy of the case file by August 3rd, when the case will be called again.
Gomes, 54, was allegedly beaten with a piece of wood by the accused on Father’s Day. Two days after the assault, Gomes fell ill and had to be hospitalised. He later succumbed in hospital.
Gomes returned to Guyana from New York on March 3rd and was forced to stay here after the closure of international airports due to COVID-19, prevented him from returning to the United States of America.
