Writer Ruel Johnson was yesterday released on station bail after he was questioned by the police about a rape allegation levelled against him.
This was confirmed by Police Commander of Region 4(A) Phillip Azore, who told Stabroek News that a report of alleged rape was made against Johnson.
Azore explained that Johnson was contacted by the police yesterday and asked to report to the Alberttown Police station and he cooperated.
“We made contact with him, he was invited to the station, he came, we put the allegation to him and he was interviewed,” Azore said.
Johnson was subsequently released on station bail, he added.
Once the police complete their investigation, they will seek legal advice on the way forward in the matter.
In a Facebook post, Johnson confirmed that the allegation had been made. “It is completely false. The Guyana Police Force, to its credit, has been professional and respectful in handling this issue. As I said before, I welcome any probe into my behaviour,” he said.
