Within a matter of 24 hours, ten new COVID-19 cases were confirmed after the testing of eighty-five persons, according to yesterday’s Ministry of Public Health’s dashboard.
Four of the ten cases are from South/Central Rupununi.
The ten cases follow Saturday’s eight reported new cases.
According to the regional health officer of region nine, Dr. Naail Uthman, the region now has 22 confirmed cases, 17 of which are active cases.
“We conducted a total of 172 tests. Of the 47 samples sent, we have 4 positives with 34 results still outstanding”, Uthman said. The new cases are results received from 13 samples that were tested.
The four cases are from the villages of Quiko and Potarinau.
Of the 370 cases to have been confirmed in Guyana to date, 169 are shown to be active cases currently in institutional isolation while thirty-three persons are in institutional quarantine. The number of deaths remains at 20. Four persons are presently in the intensive care unit.
