The Mayor and City Councillors (M&CC) is reminding all persons slaughtering cows for Eid-ul-Adha that the carcasses must be examined and certified by officers of the Municipal Abattoir.
In a press release, Debra Lewis, M&CC Public Relations Officer, said since the meat would be distributed to the public, it is important that trained Meat and Food Inspectors determine its “wholesomeness.”
The release added that the M&CC is responsible for ensuring the meat and food entering the public domain for consumption is free from tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases.
It also disclosed that a Meat and Food Inspector must be present at masjids utilised for the slaughtering of animals on Eid-ul-Adha to “inspect and certify” the integrity of the meat.
For arrangements, persons can make contact by calling the Municipal Abattoir on 227-2131/226-3700, the release added.
