12 new COVID-19 cases confirmed

Ahead of the start of the fourth phase of reopening since the institution of COVID-19 restrictions, Guyana yesterday reported 12 new cases, taking the national total to 413 since March 11. 

The latest figures were posted by the Ministry of Public Health when it updated its COVID-19 dashboard on its Facebook page. There are currently 208 persons in institutional isolation, which accounts for the number of active cases in the country at the present time. Based on the figures provided, 65 more persons were tested for the virus during the last testing cycle and as a result 4,705 persons have been tested in the country so far.

No new recoveries were recorded as the number of recovered persons remain at 185. However, three persons remain in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit and there are now 50 persons within institutional quarantine. There have been a total of 20 deaths thus far.

165 cases have been recorded during the month of July, with the majority of those cases being recorded in the hinterland regions. Cases have been increasing significantly since Guyana began the first phase of its reopening process.
